Jacob Mawby
Sharing a heavy discourse from late 18th to mid 19th century Romanticism in landscape painting, my work draws heavily from artists such as JMW Turner and Constable. Like them, I feel inspired by the natural world around us.
My art often depicts the Contemporary British countryside through mainly oil and watercolour on either canvas or heavy GSM papers.
Throughout my paintings I love to ‘timestamp’ the nostalgic imagery with contemporary props and ‘easter eggs’ ranging from speeding cars to discarded cans of energy drinks.
This vision continues to highlight that the carefully depicted landscape can still be held in high-regard as a subject that is a playground for emotion.
